Butterfly
A dear friend of mine once told me something that has stuck with me ever since. She told me that the Lord reminds her he is present every time she sees a butterfly. Since then, I have noticed the gentle swirl of wings dancing around me on my morning runs. I have adopted this secret that she shared with the Lord. Butterflies are gentle and it seems like they appear out of no where, their source...

simplify
I just loaded my 7th bag of clothes/books/hats/random accumulated junk into my car. It feels like a sweet relief to drop it off at goodwill and know I will not have to store it in my rubbermade containers any longer. I mean really.. if you have it in storage do you really need it? no.
Simplify.

so this is the good part.
There is a bright yellow lantern light that hangs from my ceiling in my living room. Something about the paper-like fabric highlighting the tall off-white walls calls me to simply sit, and stay. It’s like a shiny rock in the river or something. From our kitchen, if that lantern is on, its rays sneak out of the room into the hallway and let me know the party is still going. and this time...

be mary, choose the good parts.
I’m laying on my bed with my computer on my lap-desk (yes, one of those stupid college build-a-room scam items that every freshman gets from their pre college move-in day trip to bed bath and beyond.) I have to say not only does it correct my positional alignment issues, but it’s non-slip grip makes it easy to put my knees up and type in an almost horizontal stance. A stance that I...

selfish or shy?
It seems my journal has been getting all of the dirty details of my life lately. I am sad to realize my last post was months ago, but all too content that some things were made for only a pen and paper and one pair of eyes at a time.
Trying to play catch up would entail something just short of an anxiety attack, so I would prefer to pretend we are on the same page and discuss the little life...

it was so funny
some moments make you laugh out loud. I have had a few of those recently. One because the tension in the van was too tight. I took the loudest crunch of sam’s club spicy trail mix and started choking. Another because Jonathan’s mom taught me a trick about reading your fortune cookie’s fortune by adding “in bed” to the end.. at dinner tonight we had a beautiful Chinese...
New York City
Looking up at the Wal-Mart-sized billboards illuminated with wattage fit to ring in the new year, I breathe in the air of times square. The smell had a split personality caught between the delight of state fair mini-doughnuts and damp streets in the morning. As I took in all that New York City had to offer, I had a flash of the movie Wal-e and started to be a little creeped out. Amidst the glamour...

Always Sonni in Houston Texas.
so everything seems to be bigger, like I’ve heard. The van ride yesterday was not too bad due to the plan I came up with. Knowing that we had a 5 hour drive I woke up yesterday morning after 4 hours of sleep, went on a run, (which in Louisiana was a sweaty decision) and loaded the van only to sleep for probably 20 minutes. good plan kelsey… yes, wake up early to sleep in the van and...
Making music, making friends.
Copeland/Paper Route/This Providence/Brooke Waggoner
For the month of April I am traveling in a big white van playing with artist Brooke Waggoner. Tonight was our 3rd show and we find ourselves staying the night in Baton Rouge Louisiana. We played in New Orleans this evening and I would have to say it was quite an experience. I enjoyed the open air cafes that offer so much more than hot...

one green day not focused on "going" anywhere.....
Day Job:
I’m in the midst of writing a song for an independent film out in LA. It’s weird to fulfill a work day sitting on my creaky old wood floor with my guitar in hand. I usually play scene by scene on my computer and try to subconsciously summarize the setting in noise. the task is new for me, but I am growing to love this way of creating music. I hope this is the first of many...
